Young Valley Soil was formed in 2018. The artists Elina Saalfeld, Elisa Nessler, Francisca Markus and Cristina Rüesch founded the collective whilst studying together at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts. Within the collective, they collaborate on performative works that explore phenomena from everyday life, pop culture and interpersonal relationships. In doing so, they experiment with participatory methods and explore public space, as well as their immediate and digital surroundings. Young Valley Soil adopts a research-based approach and opens up avenues to research through artistic interpretation. The artists, who work in various disciplines and live in different locations, use their collaborative practice to explore questions of participation, the culture of dialogue and learning formats.
